CLUB ADVISOR:
- California Scholarship Federation - National Honors Society - Red Cross Mr. Mark Estanislao was born and raised in San Diego, California. He received his B.A. in Social Science and a minor in Education with a specialization in Social Sciences for Secondary Education from the University of California, Irvine (UCI) in 2007. He received his Master of Arts in Teaching from UCI in 2009. It is with great joy that Mr. Estanislao will be entering his 12th year as a teacher during the 2019-2020 academic school year. Of the 12 years, 2 years were spent teaching 8th grade Early American History at a small middle school district in Norwalk, California. In 2009, he was the recipient of the 2008-2009 Little Lake City School District “Rookie Teacher of the Year” award. Unfortunately, the reality of budget cuts set in after his second year and was laid off. He took this opportunity to seize the moment and move to New York City that summer with nothing but two large luggages and a hopeful heart. Mr. Estanislao taught 9th and 10th Global History for a public charter school located in Harlem for 3 years. He learned a lot about charter schools and working with a high population of students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and 504s. Here he learned to scaffold and backwards plan his curriculum and instruction to meet the needs of all learners. He was also trained in the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) system to be able to assist and respond to students’ emotional and behavioral development. Although he was well respected in the school and the community at-large, he knew he wanted to find a school for professional growth and longevity. New West has been Mr. Estanislao’s home for 7 years now. He continues to prove to his students, colleagues, administration and the community at-large that he embodies the mission of New West. His dynamic personality, willingness to help, and eagerness to learn has given him the courage to continue his 6th year as the 6th – 12th History Department Chair alongside the history teaching staff for NWC+. He will also be coaching the HS Cross Country team (for the 6th time) and the Track & Field team (for the 5th time) as well. Mr. Estanislao is very enthusiastic and hopeful for the continued prosperity of his student, New West Charter and its stakeholders! |
